Positive progress reported during discussions on HNS matters at IOPC Funds’ meetings

The IOPC Funds Secretariat continues to work in close cooperation with IMO to provide assistance to those States considering ratification and to prepare for the entry into force of the 2010 HNS Convention.  It regularly reports on progress to the 1992 Fund Assembly, most recently at its December 2020 and March 2021 sessions, when it provided updates on the latest review and improvements made to the HNS Finder and the establishment of a group of experts to work on a draft HNS Claims Manual.

At the time of the sessions, the number of Contracting States to the 2010 HNS Convention remained at five (Canada, Denmark, Norway, South Africa and Turkey).  However, a number of States took the opportunity to report significant progress towards implementation and ratification of the Convention, in particular: Belgium; Estonia; France; Germany; the Netherlands; and the Republic of Korea.

The documents relating to the 2010 HNS Convention that were discussed at those meetings can be found on the Implementation page and relevant documents from previous sessions can all be found on the IOPC Funds’ website.  The Record of Decisions of the March 2021 session, containing the most recent updates provided by States, can be found here.
